At first I didn’t want to blog about this, I don’t wish to get bashed by die-heart, defensive Rainie Yang fans (well you know how worked up some netizens can get). But this issue wouldn’t get out of my mind, so alas, I finally decided to type it out after a week from the shocking observation I made.
Well people, please spot the similarities in the 2 Eau Fraiche bottles found in the pictures below.
This Rainie picture is found in her new album 半熟宣言. I didn’t get the album so I’m not sure whether she gave credits to Chanel for taking their bottle design and modifying it to suit her album’s “半熟宣言” theme. The point is, if Chanel agreed upon her request to give her rights to do so, they might as well make her the spokesperson for this Eau Fraiche right? Which means to say, I’m quite sure her management company Sony BMG did not do so (ya, I risk getting sued by Sony for typing this). Another point to elaborate on my stand is that, Chanel is a very prestigious luxury good brand, it’s in the upper class of all the luxury good brands (along with LV, Hermes, in case you don’t know, branded items are ranked too, sorry to digress). So why would they allow her, a celebrity yet to receive the honourable 天后 title to ‘take their design concept and alter it to her favour’?
And don’t you forget that it took a long period of time to come up with this Chance Eau Fraiche, the people behind creating this product took many months or so to come up with the product concept, bottle design etc. Thus it really got on my nerves that she, in an attempt to proclaim her ‘half-riped maturation’, just simply erased the Chance product name and added her wonderful cursive font ‘Rainie’ on it. Even if she did have granted permission to do so (which I would say is a minute possibility), I think she should have taken a step back and look at what exactly is she telling us audiences. Amidst her near retiring cutesy image, I think her attempt at announcing her image change move is rather desperate. Desperate to the extend that Chanel designers are not respected upon.
I’ve seen celebrities taking concepts from other megastars, but this is the first time I’ve seen a celebrity stealing a concept from one of the world’s most recognised fashion house. What a shame should it cause her an infringement of copyright law.
P.S. Comments regarding me being unfair to her are DISALLOWED. I’m stating all these from a neutral point of view.
P.S.S For your information, Eau Fraiche means Fresh Water in French. It’s actually a diluted form of Eau de Parfum.
P.S.S.S. When I told my BF last night that I wanted to blog about this, he joked that it may get into the Taiwanese Tabloids. Lols.
