ladydior

This is my favourite print for the Lady Dior campaign :) Marion Cortillard looks her best in red.

{edit: opps! realize it isn’t considered as a pure black&white film, but I guess with the inclusion of the Eiffel tower scene in almost monochrome hue, there’s no escape for romanticism.}

 Waiting for Chapter 2!

P.S. Noir means “black” in French, it could also be the shorten form of Film Noir, which means “black novel”.

The royal purple dress is so pretty :) So is the wearer. Haha, none other than the 30 year old Zhang Ziyi. 30? She looks more like a blushing 22 year old in this picture (:

The bubble-skirt dress is from Louis Vuitton Winter/Fall 2009.

And I like this advertorial pic too :) From Omega watches. I like the bluish-purple colour tone lah. Haha.

Just had a random thought yesterday. I want to snip off my long hair (:

I kind of prefer myself with short or mid-length hair. Maybe because I’m petite, and with a small face, having long hair doesn’t really suit me that well? Haha.

As for now, I’d pick Jolin’s short & simple hairdo. I should try having it coloured too =)

<edit: My friends are so cute! “I think you look nice with short hair”. “Shorter than your current hair, around shoulder length?”. “About mid length is good too, feel that you look nicer with hair not tied up”.>

Looking divine and sweet in Jason Wu’s blue mini-dress :) Absolutely love the gems-encrusted upper hemline portion. Plus Jessica Alba’s makeup look great too! Okay, I’m starting to have this liking for red lips. Hehe!

Moving on, I’m in love with a new dessert – Panna Cotta! *DROOLS*

Panna Cotta is an Italian dessert made up of cream, sugar, milk & some gelatin. It is served with various sauces such as strawberry, blueberry or chocolate. I’m looking around for patisseries that serve this delectable sweet-treat :D

And not to forget, Mango Lassi rocks too! A healthy yoghurt-based beverage excellent for our still-in-Summer-weather Singapore. But sadly, it is only available in Indian Restaurants :(

Toodles~~

P.S. Having an extreme sweet-tooth lately :) Hence, I’m sad to say I’ve gained 2KG! (>.<)

coco avant chanel

Coco Before Chanel~

I’m waiting for this movie to hit our local screens in 2 weeks time :)

I can’t say I’m well-read with facts of Chanel (both person & brand). But I’d say Gabrielle “Coco” Chanel is one exceptionally good role model for females out there. Possibly born with a feminist streak in me, I’ve always believe that females should be well-educated, opinionated and independent (of course sometimes we do get a little emotional). And with these 3 qualities, we can pave out our own careers without relying on the other gender. Coco Chanel revolutionized the female fashion during the time where poor ladies had to be laced and tightened up in “unforgiving” corsets (I wonder whether those ladies had restricted body movements, they had to sit UP RIGHT and stand STRAIGHT?). She had the philosophy that “women should dress up for themselves, and not for men”, and with this concept, it extended to influencing the lifestyles of females out there where they no longer rigidly followed the expected etiquette of a lady during that era.

With so much change made to our (females!) life, it is no wonder Gabrielle Chanel is the only designer to be named in Time Magazine’s 100 Most Influentiel People in the 20th Century (:

“I gave women a sense of freedom. I gave them back their bodies: bodies that were drenched in sweat, due to fashion’s finery, lace, corsets, undercoats and paddings.” – Coco Chanel.

I hope the movie is accurately-depicted and worthy of my $10.

Trailer.. In French, of course!

One good synopsis from Apple Movie Trailers:

Coco Before Chanel is the story of Gabrielle “Coco” Chanel, who began her life as headstrong orphan, and through an extraordinary journey became the legendary couturier who embodied the modern woman and became a timeless symbol of success, freedom and style. The film portrays the formative years of Chanel’s life, the years of Chanel spent discovering and inventing herself.

Au revoir! *muacks*

I love this vintage glamour look. For the 1940’s style, fashion was mainly about wearing fire-engine red lipstick and nail polish, fitting into dresses that show off your slim waistline and curvy proportions, as well as having wavy hairdo such as the one above. It is my all time favourite look - totally feminine and sexy.

With the neat side sweep rolls, this hairstyle is one that truly shows off your facial features (and earrings!). And I can safely say that this elegant hairdo is popularized by none other than the famous Hollywood sex-symbol, Marilyn Monroe :)

I just really like the 1940’s style! :D I wish there can be one opportunity for me to try out this look. HAHA! Or maybe a slightly modernized version of it *hmmm*.

42-17117562

P.S. Just wondering, how long does it take to style this hair? And I’m sure it must be very troublesome to sleep with curlers every night(talk about attaching and removing it) to maintain the waves.

Yeah people, this is the magazine that I was referring to in my previous entry.

CHIC.

Ok I overrated it. Pardon me for making you guys so excited when honestly, it is just another for-street-fashion-only type of read.

Simply to say, I was deceived too! (Clever marketing!) Don’t expect intelligent writeups (the only writeup was a short essay on compulsive shopping habits- bah! nothing surprising). But on the account that it is sold at a very affordable price of $2.80 per issue, I shouldn’t complain much since I get things like

1) Recommendations on style guide books (in which I’ve seen half of them already)

2) A guide to all the shops at Haji Lane (good for those who have not step foot on this quaint little street)

DSCN4533

Yup that’s about the stuff worth remembering. I don’t know whether I’m too mature for this magazine because

1) Whatever clothes they recommend, I’ve seen such styles already.

2) Nothing surprises me. Maybe I expect to see some discussion on the latest runway seasonal picks etc.

I’d say I’ll recommend this magazine to “fashion noobs”, i.e. those who know nothing, simply nothing about fashion/trends/styles. If you don’t fall under this category, well, I’ll suggest that it is more worth it to add a few dollars and get proper reads like VOGUE, Vanity Fair, Elle :)

Tadah! That’s all!

Oh I’ll be going to Mt Faber next Wednesday! Reason? For my friend’s photoshoot (: I’ll snap some good pictures (no not of my friend)!

P.S. After much contemplation, I’ve decided not to get an SLR because there’s no point, when I don’t have the basics in photography(aperture, lens, filters etc) and I don’t have the time to learn (for now). Besides, I don’t see a point, spending like $2000 on a professional camera, snapping a few pictures on irregular basis and making myself “look pro”. Tsk, no fakes please.

P.S.S. Finally going to try chocolate banana cake at this particular place in Forum! Hope it is good and worth the money (I hate it when they don’t put pricings on their online menu).

P.S.S.S. It is a FFRRRIIIDAAAYYY. Go out and enjoy yourself! :D

2010’s Spring~ June 15, 2009

Even before we end the sizzling Summer this year, the runway designers have already come out with 2010’s pre-Spring/Resorts collection. And as I browsed through the pieces by Donna Karan, I couldn’t help going “Wow lovely!”. I guess most of you know, I am fond of her clean cut and shapely designs that oozes both feminity with elegance :)

Below are some of my favourite ones!

Let’s start with the middle-sex look. It might seem bizarre for a female to wear pantsuits or tailored jackets with chiffon tops inside. But hey! Since when is feminity restricted to only wearing dresses and skirts?

Of good skin~ June 14, 2009

Hello!!!

I’m so happy!! :D

Because my ‘weekend’ is starting!!

Don’t get mistaken that I do not enjoy work. I do like my short job. Well come on, with a good pay, relaxing environment, friendly colleagues (except for that annoying BUGGER who treats me like his unofficial girlfriend- F*CK OFF!!) What more can you ask for? :)

The reason why I am declaring my happiness is because finally I’ve sometime to rest. My complexion is at it’s worst now because of the unbearable Summer weather here :(

I did mention before that I am very particular about my complexion because no matter how beautiful you look, how well you dress, your skin is the one that gives the alluring factor =) Don’t we find ourselves complimenting people with smooth, clear skin? Like “Hey look! That girl there! Her complexion is so good lah!”

Personally, I would rather spend more cash on skincare than makeup. And according to Mommy, you need to invest in it (皮肤是要投资的!). Hahaha. Besides, don’t you agree that with almost perfect skin, there’s not a need to slap on layers of primer, foundation, concealor and powder right? Au natural is the way to go!

I am not asking you guys to splurge heavily on those overly commercialised beauty regime products (most of them won’t suit you anyway because our skin is unique, I doubt there is a one kind suits all range that will do wonders for everyone). Just keep in mind the basics - drink plenty of water, eat more fruits/vegetables, have sufficient sleep (rest early too!) and keep your face grease and dirt free!

Oh if you want to know how bad my face is now. I’ve 2 pimple scars to heal, and one acne :(

I’ll blog again tomorrow! :D

P.S. Okay Okay I AM VAIN!

For the past week I’ve gotten myself in love with Dolce & Gabbana.

And it’s good news when Scarlett Johanssen is the spokesperson for their cosmetics range (though not available here).

d&gfall09

d&gfall092

These 2 are from the Fall RTW 2009 collection which I actually like- gasp! Personally, I prefer clothes from Spring/Summer collection because Fall attires are typically quite dull, dark & gloomy :( Not to my liking! And staying in a country where it is Summer all year round doesn’t help me to appreciate the style assembles of faux fur, thick wool and leather trenchcoats.

Oh! The first picture above is from Spring RTW 2009. Very princessy! ;)

Before I finish up, I’d like to share this photo. It caught my attention because of its artistic backdrop (love that makeup table! Reminds me of those theatrical dressing rooms!) and I like the vacant stare that Scarlett gave :)

This is a ribbed bandage dress by designer Alexander Wang for Spring 2009 ;)

AWspring092

And next, we have Topshop coming up with a interestingly similar one shoulder top (or is it me?).

topshop oneshoulder top

It is quite a wonder how the whole fashion industry works. Designers ignite the trends and cheaper labels come up with similar and affordable pieces for us “common people”. Oh, I’m not complaining :)

P.S. I’m still sticking by the “originality” rule, and there’s nothing wrong with taking these trends as your form of inspiration – only. Ahh, but this ”rip off” act is just part of the industry, (for profit’s sake). And I’m not advocating it either. But as a someone who is not filthy rich, I can’t say that I’ll never buy from these alternative brands because seriously, not every single piece is a “rip off”, right?

Pretty?

The top dress gives a “princessy” feel and the 2nd attire has this “neat, clean & smart” outlook :) The only flaw is that the models should be more curvy. Haha! These 2 outfits are from Jonathan Saunders.

lofficiel1

I happen to pick up L’Officiel Magazine- Singapore edition. It is a French fashion magazine that is dedicated to feature fashion updates in an ”artistic” way and I like the fact that it includes intellectual writeups (such as for this month there’s an article on vanity which details on “the desires of beauteous perfection”). I find that this magazine is more educational than usual reads like Cleo, Elle etc. Furthermore, the style concepts are inspiring and there are not just attempts to merely just ”throw pieces of luxury items together hoping to achieve some new look”. Wonder what’s up for next month’s edition :D

Have a relaxing Sunday!

Take Care~ April 16, 2009

Own Style, Own Self~ April 3, 2009

Hello Hello!!

I was madly rushing projects for the past 5 days hence no postings. Today I shall talk about Fashion =) My style in particular. Haha I’m going to write what comes into my head, so yeah.. don’t expect a proper well organised article with nitty gritty details or even a timeline listing my fashion personalities for the past 20 years :P

Awhile ago I took 2 Facebook quizzes…

fbquizzes

Well well… what can I say? If you frequent my blog you’ll know that I’m a Chanel fan (read read). And this quiz is like some “reaffirmation” of my fashion style/personality/dressing preference. Haha :)

I always believe in the notion of “you dress up and look good for yourself, period“. I really don’t see and get the point of why girls discuss what to wear (no offence!) for outings/dates/parties etc. It is fine if you want to get some advices. However it is really a big “NO NO” if you follow what other girls wear and it irks me when girls go “Ok! Let’s all wear blouse and shorts!” (>.<).

To be honest, I will be fuming mad if my friends copy my idea wholesale and turn up wearing the similar attire as me.

Reasons: Why can’t you doll up following your own preferences? What’s with that lack of confidence? Don’t you have a mind of your own?

I think what matters most is having self confidence – 有自信的女人才是最美丽 :D

Certainly, there are some rules/guides that you should follow in order not to make a mockery of yourself. (Well these are my advices!)

1) You should dress in what suits your body frame/skin tone.

2) Comfort is key (don’t force yourself to squeeze into that little black dress).

3) Don’t imitate others just because you think it will look good on yourself too. You can recreate the dressing style and not ”copy and paste” for that is a total YUCK.

And I thought this would interest you readers: my style inpirations =)

Jolin Tsai & Victoria Beckham!!

The former is not a surprise to many of you all but the latter? Haha, I love her clean-cut overall look.

P.S. About the classy look which I adore, I find myself into fashion that ”withstand the test of time” :)
