I’m promoting this website done up by one of my close secondary friends, Eric. Currently an SMU undergraduate with passion in lifestyle photography, he has done photoshoots for numerous wedding couples, birthday celebrations as well as public events such as the much-raved about Audi Fashion Show 2009. Check out his photos, I enjoy viewing them as they are not just “flat” photos that capture moments plainly. Borrowing from the famous adage “a picture speaks a thousand words”, this is one fitting description of his photos =)

Vicky’s Chocolate Fudge Cake~ January 25, 2009

Filed under: Local: Singapore`, Try it out!` — Restrained Deliriums @ 10:44 pm

My generous aunty and uncle gave my family a cake for Chinese New Year. I’ve never heard of this brand before -Vicky’s.

This isn’t your usual Secret Recipes/Bakerzin etc confectionary brand hence many of guys might not have heard of its name before. However, don’t underestimate its yumminess! This home-made brand only bakes 1 type of cake – its signature chocolate fudge cake. The pictures will do the explanation :)

dscn3566

dscn3567

dscn3570

Before you even open the box, you’ll already be able to smell the rich and heavenly chocolate scent. The cake is soft, not too dry or crumbly and coated with sufficient chocolate that doesn’t make you go “oh sorry, too chocolatey for me”. It’s definitely one cake that pleases my palate! I’ve no doubts about ordering it in future :D

For more information, please visit: http://www.geocities.com/vickyschoc/index.htm

P.S. Just a wacky fact about me: I get pissed off if the cake I eat gets crumbly. You know, when the cake “collapses” the moment you put your fork through? I’m quite particular about this because it shows the baker’s efforts, and I don’t want to end up “scooping” a cake too. Being a cake lover (to hell with those who say that cakes are fattening!!), I’m very picky about the quality of cakes that pass my palate :P

Randoms.

1) My Daddy’s friend called this morning to brag about how well his son did for last year’s GCE ‘O’ Levels: he got 9 Distinctions and is now a student of RJC. Seriously, who gives a fu*k? I’m not saying this because I’m jealous that I didn’t even make it to the Top 5 Junior Colleges. I just want to emphasize that scoring excellently for GCE ‘O’ Levels does not equate that you will be extremely successful for the rest of your life. I don’t see a point for you to be bragging about your son’s achievements to other people, unless the other people actually asked about it. I understand from the parents’ point of view that this is a happy event, worthy of making you smile to yourself for the next 10 months or whatever. Afterall in Asian culture, academics are placed at highest priority in a child’s life (Ok the phrasing is odd but you get what I’m trying to explain right?). Unfortunately, being successful in life involves many other factors like EQ, luck, social network, foresight… just to name a few. I’m also not trying to curse his son – hope he screws up his GCE ‘A’ Levels or end up behind the bars etc. It’s just that it is a really illogical mentality that doing well academically means the whole world to a child’s life or the parents’ pride. There are other aspects in life to excel in and for parents to be proud of, agree??

2) La Vie en Rose. I’m referring to the song not the 2007 movie in which Marion Cortillard becomes the first French actress to win an Academy Award. It’s just that suddenly, I found myself in love with this song. I can’t find the original French version by Édith Piaf :( I find the song very erm, romantic? Very light-hearted? When I first heard this song, my mind gave a vision of a pretty French lady strolling down the street joyfully, looking at other couples chatting in cafes ;) This is the English version by Donna Summer. Hope you like it too :D

<edit: I found the Édith Piaf version! It’s so much better than Donna Summer’s. Oh well, original’s always the best!>

3) I had a really fabulous weekend catching up with my secondary school friends. A BIG Thanks to Ben (who got thrown into the swimming pool!!), Yilin, Amanda Lai, Zilin for organising this get-together :D The guys changed a lot physically, thanks to army, haha. Plus, I stayed over at Zilin’s house and I had a fun time digging through her piles of shoes/clothes. It’s also really an experience to wake up in the early morning and have your friend as the first thing you see (no lesbian implications!) :P We had a great time indulging in reminiscence, bringing up our good old school days where we gave nicknames to some of the guys, like “Yeti”, “Ducky”, “Grandpa”, “Bunny” etc.  LOL , LIKE WHAT THE HELL LOR!!

Ok folks, that’s the end for now. I’ll upload some photos if I can get my hands on them.

Cheers!! :)

Fun quiz~ November 16, 2008

Filed under: Try it out!` — Restrained Deliriums @ 10:50 pm

I visited my friend’s blog and I saw a post regarding a quiz on what’s your gender personality split. (Thanks Pris for this interesting quiz!)

I tried it and my results were rather accurate. Haha

bgtest

I like the last sentence very much. It accurately depicts what sort of female I am :) I like to give people surprises (pleasant ones of course!), whether it’s on the physical side or mental aspect. Ain’t that what makes life interesting?

Be unpredictable. That’s one of my ”life rules”. :D

P.S. Try this quiz out if you haven’t! Click here. There are many other fun quizzes as well, do try the Castle Personality Test too!

P.S.S. When I was in the adolescence stage I had very bad pimple outbreaks, so I consulted a doctor and he told me it’s the result of hormonal inbalance, some sort about me having more male hormones than I should have. I guess that resulted in my mix gender personality huh (~.~)

Nothing special~ October 24, 2008

Filed under: My everyday living`, Try it out!` — Restrained Deliriums @ 4:28 pm

Got my new phone, finally! But I’m not very pleased because the sweet lavender cover option was sold out. So I had to settle for the less than perfect steel blue option :( And this set was the last available one at the Compass Point M1 outlet. Wow, I’m sure it’s the last set in Sg. :P

Yeah, nothing special. Haha I think the focus is on the gem studded lips rather than my phone! This picture is from an advertorial booklet given in the box. I gasped at it initially and wondered why did they come up with this shocking advert picture? Maybe it’s in line with the phone’s “eye-catching” concept?

I don’t think I’ll be studding diamantes on my phone cover. It’s nice to have a pretty bling bling phone but I’d rather have those gems adorned on my nails instead =) It’s a wonder how those Japanese came up with so many beautiful and innovative design concepts. Check out Dekoden for more!

青蓝法式。 October 5, 2008

Filed under: Beauty & Fashion`, Mandarin musings`, Try it out!` — Restrained Deliriums @ 1:05 pm

French Manicure
 指甲彩绘:Nailart(终于知道Nailart华文叫做什么!而水晶指甲是指甲彩绘之一。)^_^

Linking up~ September 26, 2008

Filed under: Random talkings`, Try it out!` — Restrained Deliriums @ 12:56 pm

Found this extremely interesting, although I hate Mathematics :P

I guess Friendster copied this idea too?

This idea is about collaborative linking concept and is called the Erdős number. Where according to Wikipedia:

It is describing the “collaborative distance” between a person and Erdős, as measured by authorship of mathematical papers.

And Paul Erdős was the late Hungarian Mathematician who wrote a lot of mathematical scientific journals :)

In short, it means to say, if I collaborated with Erdős for one scientific paper, and later on collaborated with Sam for another paper(in which he had never collaborated with Erdős before), Sam would then have an Erdős number of 2! Because it simply means that he is just 2 steps away from the great mathematician Erdős! And I of course, have an Erdős number of 1! :D

i.e. Erdős -> Me -> Sam

This concept was then copied by Kevin Bacon, a Hollywood actor who created the game Six Degree’s of Kevin Bacon, with an aim of applying this idea to the movie industry.

Hence combining the two, we’ll have this thing called the Erdős-Bacon number where it is the sum of the 2 different numbers :)

And an example of someone with a defined Erdős-Bacon number would be Natalie Portman, many of you guys would know her as Queen Amidala from the Star Wars Trilogy. As she is a Hollywood actress and was a brilliant student from Harvard where she co-authored two scientific journals that can be feasibly traced back to Erdős, this gives her the Erdős-Bacon number of 7, where her Erdős number is 5 and Bacon number is 2.

Cool right!? I never thought anyone would come up with such a thing! It just shows bits of quirkiness that exist among mankind. Lolx!

For more reads, click here.

P.S. Since Erdős has ascended to heaven and cannot write anymore scientific journals, nobody would be possible to have a new Erdős number of 1. Understand?

Just a short followup for the Shugar email post and what I did for these 2 days.

As spoken, I went to Shugar Bugis on Friday to purchase nail stickers and tweezers, there was absolutely no importunateness from the sales thus I didn’t feel any pressure to buy these and that. So, the email wasn’t a lure like those random letters you receive asking you to go down to blablabla and redeem your free gift but when you step into the place you are touted to buy some high financial risk item. Ok overly long sentence. But you get what I’m trying to say right? :)

And I went to Bugis Street and Haji Lane *surprise!! I always shop in big shopping malls not at streets or lanes! Guess it’s because of the overall ambiance.* I manage to find my orange sticks at this beauty shop in Bugis street, so I bought all the packets that they displayed, hehe! While at Haji Lane, I spotted this cute fuchsia bag for $49 only and I’m going back the week after to get it :D I would say Haji Lane is a unique place to shop at, the street itself looks like some post-war, deserted, ‘ulu’, sleazy place that my parents would absolutely forbid me to go to. But hey, there are a handful of small shops that sell clothes/accessories with a different style and design from those clothing empires like Zara or Mango-varieties that don’t follow the runway trend closely. So if you are looking for something unconventional or special, maybe you can drop by the lane and check it out. It takes awhile for you to ‘accept’ the place (like me!!), but well, with limited choices in Sg, it’s better to keep an open mind:D

I apologise for the lack of photos. Will make sure I’ll snap a few good ones during my next trip ;) O and it reminds me of something, I think it has been my wish(for quite a period of time) to have a digital single- lens reflex camera (DSLR). My dad used to be a photographer too, and I daresay that I inherited that trait :)

Canon EOS 450D- I want You!

P.S. I can’t find time to write up the Disney post. To busy with school and nails. Wahahaha! Hmm maybe I’ll just post up some good photos?

A generous treat! July 31, 2008

Filed under: Beauty & Fashion`, Local: Singapore`, Try it out!` — Restrained Deliriums @ 7:52 pm

Today I received an email surprise from the director of Shugar- a DIY nail art concept store.

(Double click to enlarge.)

Honestly I never knew that such rewards actually exist! It is like I don’t know her personally and she is giving a one time 15% off services and goods for me(with no minimum spending!!) just because she read my blog and realizes that I’m a trueblue nailart fan? Wow, initially I thought I was dreaming, for most retailers are quite stingy on giving discounts. I guess this is my little treat for going all out to find the orange stick! Haha, and being a marketing student, of course I find that this is a good method to draw potential customers too!! :D

I’m going to drop by Shugar tomorrow and get my hands on more 3D stickers(theirs are really durable and won’t peel or chip off easily unlike those found in Sasa), orange stick and well, maybe some other nailart related items? Unplanned in-store buying habits! :P

Tata!! More on Shugar here.

P.S. A point to note, please do not copy the image, print out and take the 15% discount voucher for yourself!!! For if you do, you have no integrity or honesty and you would have broken a cyber law for copyright! SHAME! However, if you are still in desperate search for a voucher, there is one promotion currently going on now. Infor this way

P.S.S. To Bibiana: I hope you don’t mind me showing the world that email that you sent me! :D

Scarlett Johansson’s next 2 movies are a must for me (and you all!) to catch. Watch the 2 trailers to find out why ;)

Its no surprise that her sexiness oozes in every film that she is in. Its not called cheap or slutty, its called A.R.T.

Can’t wait for the 2 films’ release!

Perusal~ June 22, 2008

Filed under: Literary Works, Try it out!` — Restrained Deliriums @ 7:30 pm

Exercise is beneficial for the body just as books are to the mind :)

I came back from AMK LIbrary with 2 great books.

This has contents such as Knowledge and the Use of Language, Wittgenstein’s Philosophy of Language, Analytic and Synthetic sentences, Predicate logic etc. Language is beyond merely just reading plainly off the pages, there are hidden meanings and twitching of sentence structure or even just a simple word can give the passage/sentence a whole new meaning :) Besides, learning more on this field gives us an opportunity to think in depth and it improves our analytical skills. I think it is really important for us to think beyond what we always see and hear (but not over frequently if not we’ll be insane!), to give our own judgement and not get swayed by what the majority says. You live your life, there is no meaning to always be in someone else’s shadows! ;)

The second book, is just for me to know more about Turkey’s West Coast which is situated near Greece & (somewhat near)Italy.

Hence the book covers areas that are Greek and Roman in culture like the scenic Greek Island of Rhodes, Didyma with its stupendous Temple of Apollo etc.

Will do up a book review once I finish reading.

Cheers!

i want to marry now. i want to b wedded in these 2 gowns. hehe.

*dreams*

ok next.. i went for my bro’s Dance Night ‘08 last nite. its supposed to b a 2 hour dance concert held every yr by RJC since 1984 (omg! 24 yrs!!).. i would like to say dat its a fabulous piece of artwork by RJC.

i am not being biased jus cos my bro is part of the dance troupe (yeah he’s a dancer-not a gay one though)

i feel dat for a JC standard.. its better than those average-barely-there ones dat i’ve seen from my very own school(stimes i even wonder whether do those teachers watching feel bored?).. they certainly do live up their title of ‘elite’

everything was well fitted.. from choreographing to dance custumes to lighting design(they even hired a designer for this)..

they had tribal dance, retro, Bollywood, traditional indian dance (with Matrix soundtrack!), contemporary, Salsa, hiphop etc

the one piece dat i found special was a modern dance themed ‘hypocrites in society’.. how cool is dat? u can even have a dance abt conforming to the real world?

i can’t wait for the one next yr!

Go brother! =) *too bad i can’t rush up stage to present him with a bouquet of flowers*

to the all the pple involved in the making of this concert :D

lastly.. i’l end off with this super cute video! (click on the link. u’l have to wait for 10secs of advert b4 the video is shown)
Cute Kittens Bopping Their Heads

P.S. i might b going for a 5 day Vietnam holiday! wad? i’m sure it’l b an eye-opening experience ok!

jus went to cut my hair @ hougang mall’s Twister =)

v satisfied wit the results..(no dat’s not me i juz copied her hairdo)

this is the 1st time in my life dat my hair on both sides ain’t the same length :P the diff is abt 3 cm?

sounds odd isn’t it? but dat’s supposed to b the way.. or hmmm.. the highlight of this style?

nice hair do come with its costs.. like

1) pple wil pinpoint u cos of ur uneven hair length (so far ard 3 peeps gav me dat look).. stupid ignorant idiots

2) needs regular trimming.. say every 8 wks? to keep the puffiness & to maintain the fringe length. FYI the fringe is super impt since it balances the diff in hair length at both sides

3) needs extra styling time in the morning.. u needa wax it and if u hav time.. blow it to make the back more puffy.. also need to have patience to ‘mould it’ into the correct shape

i love trying out new hairdos.. n thanx to mommy & daddy for giving me an oval face shape! =)

P.S. gurls out there wit a sharp face shape should giv this hair style a try! we should to open to new stuffs esp now dat we’r young! we only live once rit? :D

obsessed with solution guidebooks?? April 2, 2008

Filed under: Random talkings`, Try it out!` — Restrained Deliriums @ 9:15 pm

was talking to my bf jus now abt his 6 hr econs lecture ytd..

his lecturer for this revision period is from the University of London LSE.. (they come every yr to giv pre-finals revisions)

my bf den told me dat the local lecturers always hav disagreements wit those from UOL..

y?

becos of vast differences in teaching methods..

UL lect: y do u keep giving the students answers??!

Local lect: well becos dat’s the way we teach!!

UL lect: den ur students wil not think!

Local lect: fine.. ur students think! but they dun think correctly!

blablablabla..

its true dat we.. singaporean students r obsessed with solution guidebooks.. isn’t it?

we care a hell lot abt memorising standard answers.. chunks & chunks of answers.. most of the time we simply can’t b bothered to think- dun giv a damn abt applyin our knowledge and answerin the ques wit our own formulated answers.. instead of answers from TYS

another example is from my law lecturer.. well every yr.. 30 % of the students here fail the law module.. a shockingly high % dat is.. and btw the marketing students make up the bulk.. lolx

so my lecturer actually emailed those peeps over in Melbourne and suggested to them abt writing a law solution bk(since we here basically adore guidebks.. but for law.. its really abt applying the rules correctly and since each case is unique.. model answers ain’t v useful rit? cos no 2 cases wil b identical! minute differences in cases do lead to diverse judgements!). they replied dat they’ve tried b4 n the students in aussie dun support this idea..

furthermore.. i’ve learnt the reason y my lecture notes dun have much past yr questions.. and even if there r.. there’s no solutions to them.. the reason being: students over there dun really care abt past yr questions.. tutorials r sufficient to preparation for exams

maybe u can say dat they ain’t very enthu abt their studies? or they r PLAIN LAZY??

nope i dun think so.. i think its more of.. back to the pt: we sg students wil die if we dun do past yr ques b4 the finals.. n this is equivalent to saying.. we always hav a tendancy to want to predict wad type of ques wil come out.. so dat we feel ’safe’.. so dat we can answer them with our model answers.. so dat we dun need to crack our heads to think..

my bf also felt dat.. its a cultural thing.. isn’t it?

from the chinese culture? if u dunno.. China was once bashed by foreign media for its lack of creativity in their ‘memorise facts’ education system.. and i feel dat its cos of this reason that China always make counterfeit goods? since this thing called invention is not prominent in China.. (yes i do noe dat the chinese invented many useful items like paper and the compass etc)

hmm.. to add on.. idealism and conventions play a part too rit? we(chinese or asians as a whole?) count education as an important factor in determining your success in life..

low education standards = poor paying job = stay rotten in life

as simple as dat.. n conventionality wld mean we dun support thinking out of the box.. doing things dat most pple dun do means u r weird.. stimes it may garner flak den u wil b deemed to fail in life..

ok wadeva i said may be very generalised & vague.. or even biased.. but u can’t deny dat some of it r valid rit?

P.S. i think i did write abt this website in my previous blog.. but nonetheless i’l do it again.. if u lik satire articles.. (like me!!) do surf this website.. its not all crap and lies.. some of the issues r true.. and there r written in a mocking manner :) enjoy! :D

busy on cosmetics! :P March 19, 2008

its sounds a bit lame but i’m finally getting my makeup basics soon..

started this cosmetic craze last yr end? when i got so into M.A.C.. haha.. most of their pdts rockx! esp the brushes :) super soft *touch touch*

spent the last few months collecting mainly eyeshadows and lipglosses.. and now i wanna get some foundation.. i used to tink dat foundation makes ur complexion look cakey.. giving the ‘heavy makeup’ look-sick rit? i’m jus 19 turning 20.. i wanna hav dat youthful glow.. not the ’slap on tonnes of makeup’ kinda look :)

another thing is dat i dun hav a porcelein complexion.. so i cannot skip the foundation step! gd eye makeup is useless when ur skin is not even (perceived to be) baby smooth!

i mentioned last time about the Chanel White Essentiel collection.. the compact foundation looks gd.. here’s the description

‘This foundation smoothes away imperfections and reveal all the charm of a translucent complexion.Formulated with the ESSENTIAL LIGHT DIFFUSING COMPLEX, the LIGHT REFLECTING WHITENING COMPACT FOUNDATION SPF25/PA+++, ideally unifies and illuminates the complexion. The light reflecting iridescent pigments reveal radiance and optically smooth the complexion, and silica microspheres diffuse light to hide colour irregularities. The compact texture offers a luminous, semi-matte, and powdery finish that adorns the complexion and stays perfectly even for hours.
A refined white case with panoramic mirror and soft sponge.’

Chanel White Essentiel

from other sources.. this powder is a 1-way cake (ok its not 2-way* but it suits me fine since i dun wan a heavy coverage.. wit a good base it should last long enough yea?) and it contains Vit C derivative, sun filters and sebum regulating powder. it cost S$75 and the refill should b ard S$50? another gd one is the Chanel Extreme UV protection control powder foundation SPF 25.. its priced at S$81?? so refill is S$56.. the description sounds gd for a 2-way cake!

‘Refillable Extreme Long Lasting Powder Foundation. Specially created for Asian skin, TEINT CONTRÔLE EXTRÊME mattifies, brightens and evens out the texture of the skin. Its compact, velvety formula is ultra-light. Its fragrance-free texture is absolutely natural-looking.The skin breathes and the complexion glows. Irregularities and small imperfections seem to disappear.
Thanks to the synergic action of mineral and organic filters, the skin is also protected from UVA and UVB rays (SPF 25 / PA +++). Apply with a dry sponge for natural makeup or a slightly damp sponge for more coverage.’
Chanel UV Perfect Forever

I was also lookin at the Lancome Maquicake UV Perfect Forever.. it was recommended in last yr’s HER WORLD beauty awards and also in the Nov 07 Harper’s Bazaar Beauty Awards issue.. it costs S$83 and the refill is S$61*heartpain*..the description of it says..

‘The advanced 4 SHINE-CATCHERS TECHNOLOGY™ pushes the limits of lastingness to the extreme!MATTE LOOK FOREVER: the 4 shine-catchers™ have the amazing power to catch and absorb 4 times more sweat and sebum than a regular powder.TRANSLUCENT COLOR FOREVER: optical pigments reflect the light like the skin does to even out your complexion with a natural radiant color that stays all day.VISIBLE RESULTS PROVEN ON ASIAN SKINS: Shine-free and translucent, your wonderful complexion seems to last forever. 12-hour matte finish*.Shades and texture designed specifically for Asian skins. Non-comedogenic. Dermatologist-tested.’
Lancoe Maquicake
so which to get? i think i’l get one of the Chanel ones? since they r cheaper.. haha! i think i’l jus pick dat one dat offers a right shade for me :) *anti-yellow based* i’m also getting a new base.. currently using the M.A.C Luminous strobeundercover.. it makes my pressed powder last longer, gives a luminous glow but its not gd in controlling my facial oil.. dat’s y i’m thinking of getting the Shiseido White Lucent base? its a relatively new pdt? it contains Vit C.. sebum controlling powder.. and mattifies too.. there r 3 shades to choose from so its a gd choice if u wan a tinted base.. the price of it is S$60 *heartpain again*.. sighx.. gd makeup is always ex huh? the reason y i dun use drugstore make up is cos..

1) i hate doing touch ups.. drugstore cosmetics dun last long, >3 hrs or so.. i’m not the type who wil suddenly wipe out her powder n started patting my face.. NO NO NO.. at most i’l jus do some quick checks wit my mirror *i erm.. wan.. to.. get.. the.. Chanel mirror.. lolx.. cos its so elegant looking* :P
Chanel Miroir Double Facettes Duo

2) quality to me matters.. esp when this has something to do wit ur face.. this is so true if u use eyeshadow (i dun put frequently.. i wish to.. but dun hav so much time in the morning!).. drugstore eyeshadows either ain’t v pigmented or smudges easily.. BOO.. n also.. their compact foundations r always so erm.. rough? not fine & silky?

with all these said.. i’l jus add on wad i lookout when buying foundation/base/sunscreen..

1) SPF.. no SPF.. i won’t buy it.. even if its really excellent

2) lightweight.. applies to sunscreen & base.. i dun lik creamy thick fluids.. feels heavy!

3) long lasting.. i’ve explained dat already

4) oil absorbing.. it need not b oil-free.. FYI not all oils r bad if u’ve oily/combi skin.. e.g. tea tree oil

*2-way cake foundation: it provides medium to full coverage and it is usually more suitable for peeps wit combi & oily skin. can b applied dry or wet with a sponge. however.. do not use it to do touch ups as it wil make ur face look cakey.. use pressed powder instead!

can’t wait to get the powder! :P [mood:smiles!]
